DIY Car And Truck Popsicle Stick Christmas Ornaments

We are just weeks away from Thanksgiving and finally have our plans for the holidays. Thanksgiving day will be pretty banal, with just the usual parade of watching and feasting. The next day we will go to the mountains to visit our own Christmas tree farm.

We left Florida for North Carolina about 5 years ago. I always wanted to do that with children.

I could not be more excited. I hope we can take family photos for our Christmas cards this year.

I like to see cars and trucks driving down the street with their trees attached to the hood. It’s so exciting and the pictures really put me in the holiday mood.

HOW TO DECORATE YOUR OWN POPSICLE  STICK CAR WITH A CHRISTMAS TREE

Popsicle ornaments are so easy to make that you usually only need a few simple items.

What you will need :

  • colorful wooden craft sticks
  • stick
  • glue gun
  • sharp scissors
  • Glitter (or photo) paper for windows
  • cinnamon sticks
  • green pipe cleaners
  • black buttons
  • rope

Most items you need to make Christmas ornaments for cars and trucks are in the dollar tree.

1. Doing The Self Adhesive

Using school glue or hot glue, attach small black buttons to the bottom of two ice lollypops.

Refer to the images below to see how the Popsicle base sticks are positioned.

Glue two frozen lollipops horizontally on the buttons, as shown at the bottom right.

4. Create The Christmas Tree

Break one of the cinnamon sticks in half and get a green pipe cleaner

Starting at one end of the pipe cleaner, roll up a spiral that grows as you go down, then attach the other end to the bottom to keep the tree in shape (you can refer to my post to create this cone shape)

Slide the cinnamon stick into the bottom of the tree

5. Attach Tree and String

Use a hot glue gun to attach the pipe cleaner shaft to the top of the car.

Tie the ends of a small piece of string to form a loop, then glue the knotted end to the back of the ornament to make a hanger

5. Attach Tree and String

To attach the tree to the truck, dab the glue on the underside of the cinnamon stick with your glue gun. Then glue the Christmas tree on the back of the truck. Only the underside of the tree is glued, while the top of the tree seems to be hung on the body of the truck.

Tie the ends of a small piece of string into a loop and glue the knotted end to the back of the ornament to make a hanger.

FRAME FOR ORNAMENT OF POPSICLE STICKS

In the tutorial I used glitter paper for the windows. But once my family has gone to a tree farm, I plan to put a picture of our trip into one of these ornaments to keep it as a souvenir ornament. I’ll probably put the year somewhere on ornament. The picture below shows what it will look like, but it is not my family. I used a photo to respect the privacy of my children (and the fact that I do not have the photo I will use!).
